The Fresno State Choirs, in collaboration with the Fresno City Singers, will present “Walk in Peace: A Celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King and Black History Month” at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 10, in the Old Administration Building Auditorium at Fresno City College. In addition to musical selections, the program will include several relevant readings, said Dr. Cari Earnhart, director of choral activities for Fresno State. The program will focus on the African-American Spiritual, intertwined with readings of writings and speeches by Americans such as Frederick Douglass, Abraham Lincoln, Pearl S. Buck, W. Ann Rogers, Langston Hughes and King. One of the guest readers will be Dr. DeAnna Reese, coordinator of the Fresno State Africana Studies Program. Individual choirs will have an opportunity to perform different parts of the program, culminating in the closing pieces’ combined performances featuring the Fresno State Concert Choir, Chamber Singers and the Fresno City Singers.
