Three students are seeking the position of student body president for the 2017-18 academic year in the annual election that Associated Student Inc. will hold March 28 through 30.

Students will also vote on a referendum for the construction of a new Student Union during online voting that begins at 9 a.m. Tuesday and ends at noon Thursday.

The presidential candidates are John Richardson, a biology major; Cecilia Ruesta, a graduate student in the marriage and family counseling program who has undergraduate degrees in criminology and women’s studies running with People of Action slate; and Blake Zante, current ASI executive vice president who is a political science major running with the Students United slate.

ASI is composed of 15 senators and four executive officers, including the president, executive vice president, vice president of external affairs and vice president of finance, all up for election. Write-in candidates have until noon March 30 to register in the ASI office (University Student Union, Room 310).

A laptop polling station will be available courtesy of The League of Women Voters, outside the Kennel Bookstore from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. the first two days (March 28-29) and from 9 a.m. to noon March 30 for those without access to a computer. Students who print or screenshot their voter confirmation page may redeem it for a free Rice Krispies treat at the polling location.

Results will be announced at about 2:30 p.m. Thursday, March 30, or as soon as the League of Women Voters is done tallying results.
