Fresno State observes Healthy Campus Week Sept. 25-29 with several events, including a visit from the HungerU Tour, an exhibit designed to spark conversations about how today’s farmers are helping feed a hungry world.

The HungerU Tour trailer will be parked on campus near the Speakers Platform, north of the Henry Madden Library, Wednesday through Friday (Sept.27- 29). The tour has been visiting universities across the nation educating students about “the critical role that modern agriculture plays every day in putting food on our tables.”

The weeklong observance of free events open to students, staff and faculty is also a celebration of Fresno State’s involvement in the Healthier Campus Initiative of the Partnership for a Healthier America.

The University joined the three-year commitment in May to implement guidelines around food and nutrition, physical activity and wellness programming for students, faculty and staff with plans to launch the initiative with this week’s observance.

The Partnership for a Healthier America, supported by honorary chair and former First Lady Michelle Obama, includes over 50 colleges and universities and touches more than 1.2 million students, faculty and staff across the United States.

Other Healthy Campus Week events on-campus include:

  • Walk by Wellness Fair — Wednesday, Sept 27 (10 a.m. to 1 p.m.): Learn about health and wellness resources available on campus from outside. LOCATION: University Student Union balcony, outside.
  • Hunger Action Day — Thursday, Sept 28 (10 a.m. to 1 p.m.):  Community groups will be on campus to share information about their programs and services. Partners include Community Food Bank, Poverello House, Catholic Charities, Fresno Metro Ministry and WIC. LOCATION: University Student Union balcony, outside.
  • TGIF … Fitness! — Friday, Sept. 29 (noon to 1 p.m.): Participants are invited to make Zumba history by forming the largest dance class in the nation. Free T-shirts for the first 250 participants. LOCATION: Memorial Court at the Kennel Bookstore.

Also, a photo sweepstakes will be underway campus-wide with hints available on social media by logging in to @FSHealthPAWS for the whereabouts of fruit- and veggie-costumed friends roaming the campus throughout the week. Students take photos with the fruit and veggie friends and can share them using #HealthyCampus for a chance to win a $100 gift card.
