The annual campus Toys for Tots Drive at Fresno State will kick off at Veterans Memorial and Veterans Day Service set for 10 a.m., Thursday, Nov. 9, at the Veterans Monument near the Thomas Building flagpoles on campus.

The toy drive, sponsored by the Marine Corps League, will provide several drop off locations: the University Student Union, Henry Madden Library, Joyal Administration Building, Financial Aid Office (Joyal), and TRIO Student Support Services Veterans (Lab School Room 10) .

The deadline to drop off a new, unwrapped toy is Dec. 20.

It is one of several activities now underway for Veterans Week, including the Armed Forces Walk of Honor to the Henry Madden Library, where an exhibit by student veterans is on display. The walk begins right after the service Thursday morning. (See original Veterans Week press release: http://bit.ly/FSN-VeteransDay17)

Also from 2 to 4 p.m., Friday, Nov. 10, a reception for the “Unsung Heroes: Do You Know Who I Am?” exhibition will be held at the M Street Graduate Studios in downtown Fresno, where the display runs through Nov. 18.

Hosted by The Unsung Heroes Living History Project, the reception features Tuskegee Airmen from the Sacramento Chapter as special guests at the event in commemoration of Veterans Day Nov. 11.

A television show this weekend is airing video coverage of last year’s service on campus.

The video coverage of last year’s Veterans Day service on campus, which was produced by students in the Media, Communications and Journalism Multimedia Production Service under the direction of MCJ professor Candace Egan, is a compilation of events they shot for the Trio Support Services Veterans. It will air on the Community Media Access Collaborative channel Friday through Monday.  See scheduled air times at http://cmac.tv/show/5964/veterans-day-memorial-show/.

California Secretary of State Alex Padilla also reached out to Fresno State students to participate in a new campaign, “Honor Veterans. Vote,” online at http://HonorVeterans.sos.ca.gov. A video promoting the campaign is available at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qwQvhAWcsTA.

The campus is closed Friday, Nov. 10, in observance of the Veteran’s Day national holiday on Nov. 11, which falls on Saturday this year when the annual Fresno Veterans Day Parade will be held downtown, led by the Fresno State Bulldog Marching Band.

The University’s student veterans clubs and Army and Air Force ROTC units will also participate in the parade which will be broadcast via Facebook Live at www.facebook.com/fresnoveteransday.
