“Know the People: Enhancing Tribal Engagement Through Understanding” will be the topic of the 19th annual Harry Specht Memorial Child Welfare Symposium from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, April 6, at the Clovis Veteran’s Memorial District (808 4th St.), hosted by the Department of Social Work Education’s Title IV-E Child Welfare Program at Fresno State. The symposium will focus on the Indian Child Welfare Act that was enacted to stop abuse within child protection measures applying to Native American children. A movie screening of “The Tachi Yocuts – The Story of the Santa Rosa Rancheria” will be followed by a panel discussion of representatives, foster parents of Native American descent and tribal leaders.
