Former Fresno State English professor, Toni Wein, will speak about the aspects of her new book, “Monstrous Fellowship: ‘Pagan, Turk and Jew’ in English Popular Culture, 1780-1845” at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 26, in the Henry Madden Library (Room 2206).

The book assesses 19th century novels and plays, riots on the streets, stages of London, popular games, artwork, criminal profiles and the spectacle created around “Pagan, Turk, and Jew,” a phrase dating from 1548. Her book launch and lecture, “In the Theatre of Identity: Catholic Jews and the Old Price Riots of 1809,” are part of the Jewish Studies events for spring 2019.

It is free and open to the public. INFO: Jill Fields at jfields@csufresno.edu.
