President Joseph I. Castro ordered Fresno State’s national and state flags to be posted at half-staff on Saturday, Sept. 7, the day of a memorial service for David W. Huerta, chief of Fresno State Police Department, who died Aug. 16 at age 68. Chief Huerta, a lifelong resident of Fresno County, devoted his life to community service through law enforcement. Before joining the Fresno State Police Department in 2004, Chief Huerta retired at the rank of lieutenant after 30 years with the Fresno County Sheriff’s Department.

His memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 7, at People’s Church in Fresno (7172 N. Cedar Ave.). A reception will follow at Fresno State’s Smittcamp Alumni House. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of David Huerta to the Ronald McDonald House Central Valley.
