Lead actor and producer Amir Shah Talash and actor Sam Smith will lead a discussion following a free screening of their film, “Jirga,” at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 8, at the Peters Education Center Auditorium (in the Student Recreation Center). Directed by Australian filmmaker Benjamin Gilmour, “Jirga” is a touching modern morality tale about a former Australian soldier, Mike, who returns to Afghanistan to find and confront the family of a civilian he accidentally killed during the war. Seeking forgiveness, he puts his life in the hands of the traditional village justice system – the Jirga.

The film is in Pushto and English with English subtitles. Parking is free after 4 p.m. on Fridays with no permit necessary in lots P3 or P2. The screening is sponsored by the College of Arts and Humanities, Criminology Department, Victimology option, Alliance for Medical Outreach and Relief, Fresno Based Afghans, San Joaquin College of Law and Dr. Mehdi Ghajar.
