Women’s History Month celebrates the contributions women have made to the United States and recognizes the specific achievements women have made over the course of American history in a variety of fields.

Here is a listing of public Fresno State events throughout the month-long celebration:

  • March 1: “We’re Not All Typical,” presented by the Cross Cultural and Gender Center, noon to 12:45 p.m. in front of The Bucket. Join the Cross Cultural and Gender Center for an interactive activity that examines the frequency and effects of neurodivergency in women.
  • March 6: “Freedom Inside? Yoga Meditation in the Carceral State,” presented by the M.K. Gandhi Center: Inner Peace and Sarvodaya, 3 to 4 p.m., featuring Farah Godrej, author and associate professor of political science at UC Riverside.   • March 16: “Kasturba Gandhi: Accidental Activist” documentary film. The M.K. Gandhi Center: Inner Peace and Sarvodaya will host a film screening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Peters Education Center. A discussion with director Cynthia Lukas and contributor and professor Dr. Veena Howard will occur following the film. Contact: Howard, vehoward@mail.fresnostate.edu
  • March 24-April 1: “Men on Boats.” University Theatre presents a Fresno premiere of Jaclyn Backhous’ play, which is based on John Wesley Powell’s “The Exploration of the Colorado River and its Canyons,” a textual account of their expedition in the mid-19th century. In this production, director Gina Sandi-Diaz turns the story on its head by having an all female-identifying or non-binary cast play the roles of the men, infusing America’s historic myths of male conquest with a blast of satire.   • March 29: “A Splash of Color,” presented by the Cross Cultural and Gender Center, noon to 2 p.m. at Thomas building (Room 110), featuring local artist and Fresno State alumna Lyndsie Lyman as she leads students in a themed painting tutorial.
