Fresno State and the California State University system recently announced the appointment of Dr. Steve Blumenshine as executive director of CSU-WATER (Water Advocacy Toward Education and Research), a CSU-system affinity group located at Fresno State. Blumenshine brings a wealth of experience to this role, having previously served as the interim executive director, and now takes the helm to lead CSU-WATER in its mission of advancing water research, scholarship and advocacy across the 23 CSU campuses.

Blumenshine’s leadership will be pivotal in developing and strengthening water research initiatives in collaboration with external partners and various water stakeholders. CSU-WATER, under Blumenshine’s leadership, is focused on addressing critical agricultural, urban and environmental water issues in California, with an acute awareness of the complex governmental and societal roles in managing overprescribed and stressed water resources.

CSU-WATER’s primary goal is to secure a sustainable water supply for California through education, research and policy development by leveraging the resources and leadership across the 23 CSU campuses. The organization strives to foster academic preparation, applied research and policy development to address all aspects of water use. CSU-WATER also aims to build partnerships with the community, increase research funding through multi-campus collaborations and promote student opportunities in water-related careers.
