The Department of Recreation Administration at Fresno State is partnering with Fresno Unified School District and Adventure Education Solutions to host a series of winter day camps for over 600 Fresno Unified School District students, Dec. 18 – 21, 2023 and Jan. 2 – 5, 2024.

The interactive and educational camps will provide students of all age groups with impactful learning opportunities with a focus on skill-building. Activities include rock climbing, LEGO brick building, craft activities, and cooking, as well as ski and snowboard camps. The variety of activities ensures every participant finds something that meets their interests.

Students from the Department of Recreation Administration will lead and manage the camps under the guidance of Dr. Jason Whiting, professor of outdoor recreation and natural resource management.

“This collaboration represents an extraordinary opportunity for our students to apply their knowledge in a real-world setting while providing a valuable service to the community,” Whiting said. “It’s exciting to see our students take on leadership roles and bring these diverse camps to life.”

During the camp, participants will be provided with nutritious meals, necessary equipment for each activity and transportation, while ensuring an inclusive environment for all.

“At Adventure Education Solutions, we believe in the power of experiential learning and the positive impact it has on young individuals,” said Whiting, who also serves as the CEO of Adventure Education Solutions. “These camps are not just about having fun, but are a platform for students to explore new interests, develop new skills and make lasting friendships. We are excited to see the synergy between the experienced faculty, enthusiastic university students and eager young campers.”
