The Student Association of Geomatics Engineers Club of Fresno State’s Lyles College of Engineering will hold its 63rd annual Geomatics Conference on Thursday, Jan. 25, at Pardini’s and Friday, Jan. 26, at the Lynda and Stewart Resnick Student Union.
The Geomatics Conference will feature area businesses and agencies as they reveal the latest technologies in land surveying, photogrammetry, unmanned aerial systems, geographical information systems (GIS) and global positioning systems (GPS).
“It’s like a big reunion with so many local companies and alumni in attendance, but it’s also a chance for new companies to come in and demonstrate their services while recruiting students,” said Claudia Luna, a geomatics engineering student who is this year’s conference co-chair.
Nearly 20 industry, government and academia leaders will discuss topics such as business and land surveying, drones and 3D scanning. The two-day event will provide networking opportunities for geomatics students and professionals.
Thursday’s dinner banquet will begin at 4:30 p.m. at Pardini’s and will be followed by scholarship presentations. More than $1 million in scholarships have been awarded to geomatics students through the conference.
The conference has connected students, faculty, survey industry professionals and researchers since 1961. It supports Fresno State’s geomatics program and students.
