All five of the Fresno State Winery’s entries at the West Coast College and University Wine Festival earned awards at the event held June 8 at Allan Hancock College in Santa Maria.
In the white wine category, Fresno State’s 2019 Muscat Canelli won top honors, and its 2023 Fiano and 2023 Albarino claimed gold and silver medals. In the red wine category, its 2021 Alicante Bouschet and 2022 Amador County Zinfandel claimed silver and bronze awards.
Grapes from the wines were harvested from the 120-acre campus vineyard and other fine wine regions throughout the Central Valley and state.
Eight universities and colleges from California, Oregon, Washington and Arizona attended the second annual event.
The Fresno State Winery has won over 300 awards in wine competitions since it became the first bonded college winery in the nation in 1997. It is still the largest among university operations and produces 4,000 or more cases of wine each year.
