Fresno State viticulture and enology faculty, students, staff and supporters invite professionals in the table, wine and raisin grape industry to sign up for its Grape Day event, held from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 6 to learn about a host of wine industry topics and innovations.
A breakfast sponsored by event partner American Vineyard magazine will open the event on the lawn next to the Vincent E. Petrucci Viticulture Building. Demonstrations will follow, including new vineyard remote monitoring methods by faculty Dr. Luca Brillante and campus researchers, autonomous tractor technology by Monarch, and products from Omnia Specialties to improve soil and plant health and crop quality.
Fresno State viticulture and enology assistant professor Dr. Cliff Yu will discuss his research on precision and mechanization technologies, modern methods to more precisely manage soil and plant water relations, and grape and vine reactions to heat, sun and water deficit exposure.
Graduate student Quinn Cahoon will present his research tied to potential benefits of biofungicides on wine grape quality, fermentation and sensory properties.
Industry presentations will follow by Patrick Baker, VECKTA director of business development, about wine industry energy resilience, and Roy Butler, California Sustainable Winegrowing Alliance coordinator, on its educational and certification program.
