The Central California Children’s Institute, within the College of Health and Human Services at Fresno State, was established in 2000 with the goal of promoting research, policies and practices that support the well-being of children and families using a regional children’s agenda as the guiding framework. Beginning Sept. 16, the institute will sunset and its work will be integrated and carried forward by the Central Valley Health Policy Institute, a sister institute within the College of Health and Human Services.

During its existence, the Central California Children’s Institute led community-based research, education and training around important issues facing children, including teen pregnancy, obesity and asthma; while leveraging key partnerships with various colleges and schools on campus.

“The Central Valley Health Policy Institute is excited to preserve and build upon the foundational work of the Central California Children’s Institute,” said Dr. Tania Pacheco-Werner, director of the health policy institute. “Through our existing work in maternal and child health, we hope to provide guidance in research and build capacity with regional training.”
