Fresno State nursing students are being asked to volunteer at the Red Cross evacuation center in Mariposa County as firefighters work to contain the 1,600-acre Carstens wildfire. Hundreds of homes have been evacuated and the Red Cross has established an evacuation center at Mariposa Elementary School. Families started arriving at the shelter two days ago and more are expected. Nursing volunteer shifts are 12 hours and will be directed by Debby Dailey, a nurse and disaster relief coordinator for the Red Cross. Student nurses who want to volunteer need to register at the Red Cross office beginning at 8 a.m. today.
