A team from the Craig School of Business at California State University, Fresno placed first at the Pacific West Regional Human Resource Management Games (HR Games) at the University of Nevada, Reno.
It was the fifth time since 2000 that a team from the Craig School has won the regional championship.
The HR Games is a “Jeopardy!”-style contest that tests students’ knowledge in management practices – employee selection, labor and employee relations, compensation and benefits, training and development and health and safety.
Teams from Boise State University, Washington State University, University of Hawaii, University of Nevada at Reno and the California State University Bakersfield and Stanislaus campuses competed in the round-robin tournament.
Fresno State’s team of Nicte Chavez, Ericka Islas and Britney Neufeld defeated defending champion CSU Stanislaus 6,100-4,200 in the title game.
“The success of our students year after year is more evidence that our top students can compete with the top students anywhere,” said Dr. Rudy Sanchez, an associate professor of management and the team coach. “It is also a reflection of the strength of our nationally recognized human resource management program.”
A second Fresno State team – Aaron Meyers, Melissa Freeman and Kelly Roberts – placed third, losing to its sister team in the semifinals.
The teams are coached by Sanchez and Dr. Brian Lyons, an assistant professor of management, and local human resource management professionals Mary Bielenberg-Sanchez, Trisha Kvien and Kristen Kawaguchi.
The Craig School HR Games teams are supported by the Business Associates of the Craig School of Business, Human Resource Association of Central California, Associated Students Inc. and the Fresno State student chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management.
