Applications are available for the George Frank Feurt Memorial Scholarships for current or former California State University, Fresno students studying medicine.

Six Fresno State alumni have received the 1998-99 awards at $2,000 each: Jason Cash, of Reedley; Susan Kalinian, of Fresno; Joseph Krajekian, a former Fresno City College student; Christopher Sabourin, a former West Hills Community College student; Geoffrey Phillips, of Reedley; and Brent Wilson, of Clovis.

Several scholarships of up to $1,000 or more per year were endowed in 1962 in memory of Fresno area physician George Frank Feurt by his daughter, former Fresno State physiology professor Osta B. Feurt.

The scholarships are available for current or former students who completed two years or more of study at Fresno State, possess a minimum 3.0 grade point average, and are/or will study in the field of medicine.

The deadline to apply is Nov. 13. Applications are available in the Fresno State Scholarship Office, Joyal Administration Building, Room 296 at 5150 N Maple Ave., or call (209) 278-6572.

The six Fresno State alumni who received the 1998-99 awards at $2,000 are:

Jason Cash, a 1997 biology-physiology graduate of Fresno State, is now attending the Utah School of Medicine. He attended Reedley High School.

Susan Kalinian, a 1994 biology-physiology graduate, is attending the Tufts University School of Dentistry in Boston. She attended Roosevelt High School in Fresno.

Joseph Krajekian, a 1997 biology graduate, is also attending the Tufts University School of Dentistry in Boston. He attended high school in Beirut, Lebanon and Fresno City College prior to Fresno State.

Christopher Sabourin, a 1996 psychology graduate, is attending the UC San Francisco School of Dentistry. He attended high school in South Carolina and West Hills Community College.

Geoffrey Phillips, English graduate, is attending the UC Irvine School of Medicine. He attended Reedley High School.

Brent Wilson, a 1997 chemistry graduate, is attending the Creighton University School of Medicine in Omaha, Nebraska. He attended Clovis High School and Fresno City College.
