The Kannon Dance Company, a five-year-old modern dance troupe from St. Petersburg, Russia, will perform work choreographed to the music of the great Armenian composer Komitas on Thursday, July 19, at 8 p.m. in the John Wright Theater at Fresno State.

Komitas Songs consists of several pieces, each one to a different song, having been inspired by various topics in Armenian history. The troupe will also perform works based on the rich cultural traditions of Russia.

The eight members of Kannon Dance are in Fresno to teach students in an intensive two-week workshop entitled Dance: An International Experience, which is part of the CSU Summer Arts Program.

Background

The CSU Summer Arts Festival, hosted July 1 to 27 by the College of Arts and Humanities at Fresno State, offers 35 public events throughout the community. The internationally-acclaimed residency program features 16 intensive Summer Arts workshops bringing 420 students, teachers and arts professionals from around the country and some 120 guest artists to the campus and various locations around town.
