On Monday, May 17 the California State University, Fresno Department of Music presents Lithuanian pianist, Leon Livshin, in recital.

Livshin will perform works by Schubert, Liszt, Chopin & Debussy at 8 p.m, in the Concert Hall on the campus, Admission is $8 for general admission, $5 for faculty, staff and seniors and $4 for students.

Livshin has performed extensively throughout Europe and the United States. Born and raised in Vilnius, he started taking piano lessons at the age of five. He received his music education in Lithuanian Music Academy, Stuttgart Hochschule and Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory, where his primary teachers were Lev Vlasenko and Oleg Maisenberg among others.

During those years Livshin won several piano competitions such as International Piano competition in Kishinev, Moldova; International Piano competition in Vilnius, Lithuania and St. Vincent, Italy. As a soloist and chamber music player he appeared in numerous recitals in Austria, Germany and Italy, during the seasons of 1993-1996. Livshin also performed with

Moldavian State orchestra, Lithuanian Philharmonic and Chamber orchestra, Odessa Chamber Orchestra and Stuttgart Musikhochschule orchestra.

In 1997, Livshin came to the United States to study at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York. He was privileged to receive a full scholarship from the Liberation

Foundation and a grant from the Eastman School of Music. He studied with renowned American

pianist and pedagogue Barry Snyder. After graduation from the Eastman School of Music with a Master of Music degree, he entered the Doctor of Musical Arts program at the Stony Brook University of New York to study with well-known pianist Gilber Kalish.

Livshin currently resides in New York, where he combines a busy performing schedule with teaching at Stony Brook University. Recently, he has appeared with North Shore Symphony of Long Island and Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra and completed a solo tour in the state of New York, including an appearance in New York City. Livshin performed in several recitals in Lithuania and France in summer 2003 and continues his busy concert schedule in 2004.
