Freshman period closed after record applications

Due to growth in community college enrollments and an improved state budget that allows more students, California State University, Fresno has extended the admissions application deadline for transfer and returning students for the fall 2006 semester to April 1.

The original transfer deadline was Feb. 1. The freshman application period closed Feb. 1 with the university receiving a record number of applications for that category. The application deadline for graduate and post-baccalaureate students in critical majors of need remains at April 1, 2006.

But applications will continue to be accommodated from lower-division transfers, upper-division transfers and returning students, said Bernie Vinovrski, associate vice president for Enrollment Services.

“Since the opening of the fall application period, the university has been budgeted for additional growth for the 2006-07 academic year and has decided to accommodate additional transfer students,” Vinovrski said.

California State University campuses give enrollment priority to upper-division transfer applicants in accordance with the Master Plan for Higher Education.

“Additionally, recent reports show that local area feeder colleges are experiencing growth and higher enrollments than anticipated,” Vinovrski said. “Extending the deadline to April 1 allows students to meet with transfer counselors at their community college and submit their applications to Fresno State.”

Application categories still open are:

• Undergraduate Transfers: lower and upper division transfers and returning students

• Graduate/Postbaccalaureate: master’s, credential, advanced certificates, second BA/BS, certificate of Special Study in Enology, and preprofessional study in critical fields

Closed categories:

• Freshmen

• Post-baccalaureate unclassified.
