The “Innovation Index,” which measures the Central Valley’s progress toward fostering an innovation-based economy and sets priorities for action, will be released Friday at 10 a.m. at Fresno State.
The report covers a checklist of 10 ingredients required for a region to be successful in the knowledge-based innovation economy. Included on the checklist are the education and skill level of the workforce, accessibility of investment capital, research and development capacity, patent registrations on new technology, new business starts, a diverse mix of industry clusters, and others.
The research findings present a mix of good and bad news for the Central San Joaquin Valley economy:
The report was produced by two university offices, the Lyles Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship and the Office of Community and Economic Development, in conjunction with Boston-area research partner Advanced Research Technologies.
A briefing for the media and community leaders will be held at the new Lyles Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship office in the Student Recreation Center at Fresno State, near the corner of Shaw and Woodrow avenues.
