California State University, Fresno junior Russel Statham, the student body’s vice president of finance, has been named to the California State Student Association (CSSA) executive team.

Statham, the new university affairs chair for the CSSA, is the second officer from Fresno State’s Associated Students Inc. in the past five years to serve as an executive officer in the statewide organization.

It is exciting to represent Fresno State in such an important and intricate systemwide position,” said Statham. “I’m looking forward to advocating student perspective with the CSU Board of Trustees, the Chancellor’s Office and campus presidents.”

A business major from Fresno (Washington Union High School), Statham also is a member of the Smittcamp Family Honors College at Fresno State.

CSSA is made up of a governing board of student representatives from each school in the California State University system. As university affairs chair, Statham will direct and projects and address concerns of the 400,000 students in the CSU, including student discipline, tuition, academic policies and procedures, parking and student rights.

In addition to this appointment, Statham is one of three finalists being considered for the student trustee position on the CSU Board of Trustees. Fresno State’s Jennifer Reimer, a master’s degree student in the Craig School of Business, was appointed a student trustee last year by Gov. Schwarzenegger.
