The Student Recreation Center at California State University, Fresno is celebrating its second anniversary with special rates through Sunday, Feb. 10. Faculty and Staff can utilize the center for $1 a day, while existing members get a 20 percent discount off personal training packages.

On Wednesday, Feb. 6, from 4 to 8 p.m., a special discount will be offered as the main celebration: an additional 10 percent off of personal training packages that range from $30 to 150.

Since the center opened Feb. 3, 2006, an average of 1,200-plus members visit daily, said Amy Allen, customer relations coordinator at the Student Recreation Center.

The Student Recreation Center building is being financed by a $49 fee enrolled Fresno State students pay each semester allowing them to use it free of additional charges. The fee was approved by the student body in November 2000 referendum. Faculty and staff can also use the center by paying a membership fee.

Some of the Student Rec Center’s features include a 14,000-square-foot fitness center with cardiovascular and strength equipment for able-bodied and disabled people, a four-sided, 18-screen television kiosk with wireless FM, two racquetball courts with glass back walls, basketball and volleyball courts, indoor running track and other facilities.

New features added in the second year include a member services area located in Room 102, where people can purchase memberships, towel service, personal training, lockers and pay Intramural team fees.

Also, Intramurals is now part of the Student Recreation Center. Activities include flag football, basketball, soccer, softball, dodge ball, inner tube water polo, racquetball and more. The outdoor sports are played on the fields adjacent to the North and South Gyms on the western side of campus.

The personal training staff consists of four students with nationally recognized certifications. All are upper division or graduate kinesiology students.

Personal training prices for students are $30 for one session, $75 for three and $100 for five. The prices for Fresno State faculty or staff are $40 for one session, $105 for three and $150 for five.

Located at 5010 N. Woodrow on the corner of Shaw Ave., the Student Rec Center is open 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, and noon to 11 p.m. on Sunday.
