Monday, Aug. 3, will be the first unpaid furlough day for employees at California State University, Fresno. Administrative offices will be closed as part of the plan to help make up for a $16.3 million shortfall in state financial support. A second administrative furlough day is scheduled Aug. 10.

On both days, instructional activities on campus will continue, but support and administrative offices will be closed.

University Police and Plant Operations will ensure that facilities scheduled for instruction are open, functional, safe and secure. Janitorial services will be provided for a limited number of restrooms supporting classroom activity. Support will be provided for scheduled research labs.

University Courtyard, University Dining Hall, the Gibson Farm Market and all child care centers on campus will remain open.

Due to the severe budget reductions imposed upon the California State University system, most employee bargaining units agreed to take 24 unpaid-furlough days this year. Administrators are subject to the same unpaid-furlough schedule. University Police officers are exempt from furloughs.

The dates for administrators and employees represented by the California State University Employees Union and Academic Professionals of California were announced after the CSU Chancellor’s Office approved a final administrative-furlough day schedule for most nonfaculty employees at Fresno State.

Under the California Faculty Association furlough agreement, faculty members will work with individual campus administrators so that class schedules for students are minimally disrupted.

Furlough calendars for the Department of Athletics and Fresno State Athletic Corporation have not been set.

Exempt from mandatory furloughs are auxiliary organization employees of the California State University, Fresno Association, Inc.; Agricultural Foundation of California State University, Fresno; Fresno State Programs for Children; and Associated Students Inc. However, work schedules are being modified to support the campus.

Auxiliary organizations will provide services to students and faculty on administrative-office closure days. Critical functions at the University Agricultural Laboratory (campus farm) will be performed. Work schedules for Fresno State Foundation employees are being developed to ensure continued activity in grant-financed and contract programs.

There are three types of dates on the furlough calendar:

*

Administrative furlough days – Campus open for instruction and will provide critical services for students: classrooms and labs, childcare centers, Kennel Bookstore, University Student Union, Student Recreation Center, Satellite Student Union (except Aug. 3 and 10), Henry Madden Library (shorter hours; closed Aug. 3 and 10); and on-campus housing and dining.

*

Furlough-campus closure: Non-instruction days when campus will be closed.

*

State shutdown/furlough: Campus closed as in past during winter break, holidays, etc.
