The Fresno State Salseros dance team is sponsoring a fundraiser Saturday, Aug. 13, at California State University, Fresno’s South Gym featuring two workshops and a performance with bachata champion Alejandro Rey.

One workshop will focus on sexy bachata dancing technique and the other on sensual L.A.-style salsa moves. Both are urban contemporary updates of salsa. Rey is the acknowledged pioneer and best-known performer of bachata dancing.

The one-hour workshops begin at 7 p.m., and performances by Rey and Fresno State Salseros at 9.

DJs Hondo and Glez will provide music until 11 p.m. at the open dance following the performance. The admission ticket to the campus event is good for admission to an after-party at the Acapulco nightclub in north-central Fresno for those 21 and older.

The event is intended to raise money for costumes and choreography for the coming school year.

Tickets cost $10 in advance and $12 at the door. There is special pricing for students with ID.
