CSU trustees’ budget contingency plan hinges on Prop. 30 outcome

The California State University Board of Trustees on Wednesday, Sept. 19, adopted budget contingency measures based on the outcome of Proposition 30 on the Nov. 6 ballot.

Trustees voted 11-3 to raise tuition fees by $150 a semester (5 percent) if the tax initiative ballot measure fails, triggering a $250 million budget cut to the CSU.

The trustees from Fresno, Dr. Peter G. Mehas and Hugo Morales, voted in favor of the contingency plans.

Alternatively, the board also voted to roll back the 9.1 percent tuition fee increase already in effect for fall 2012, if voters approve the measure.
