The 39th annual Vintage Days, Fresno State’s popular student-run spring festival attracting more than 50,000 people annually, returns April 19-21 beginning with the Vintage Days Pancake Breakfast  from 7:30-10 a.m. Friday.

The formal Vintage Days Kickoff is at 9 a.m. during the breakfast held on the Maple Mall, south of the Satellite Student Union by the Speech Arts Building. The breakfast, presented by the Fresno State Staff Assembly, features “celebrity chefs” such as Dr. John D. Welty in his last Vintage Days appearance as president, and Bulldogs coaches Mike Batesole, Rodney Terry and Lauren Netherby Sewell.

The free, public three-day celebration runs from noon to 7 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday featuring food and game booths, concerts, crafts, a Kids Zone, a variety of concerts and special performances and the return of the beer and wine garden which will be open noon-7 p.m. Friday and noon-5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Other highlights include the kick-off of the KSEE 24 Concert Series with 40 Watt Hype from 2-5 p.m. on Saturday and the Papa Petrucci Vineyard 5k Run/Walk/Stroll at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday.

Proceeds of the all-ages run will benefit the V.E. Petrucci Library in the Viticulture and Enology Research Center and Vintage Days. Check-in and walk-up registration begins at 7:30 am on the Viticulture and Enology Research Center lawn (2360 E. Barstow). To register, visit Petrucci Library or contact papapetrucci@gmail.com for more information.

Food and games booths, held at the Boomtown Carnival, will raise funds for student clubs and organizations. The Crafts Faire draws more than 150 vendors and has been named one of the country’s top 200 craft shows by Sunshine Artist magazine readers.

The Kids Zone will feature pony rides, a petting zoo, bounce house attractions, a giant slide, arts and crafts activities, Tricky the Clown and demonstrations provided by the Physics Department.

Evening festivities include an outdoor movie screening of The Avengers at dusk Friday on the Maple Mall. Glow-in-the-Dark Sports will be on the Science II field (San Ramon Avenue east of Maple, access from Barstow) at 8:30 p.m. Saturday.

Throughout the weekend, teams of 3-4 Fresno State students will be competing in the Vintage Challenge, trying to score points by doing Scavenger/photo hunts, completing relays, answering trivia and attending events at Vintage Days. The winning team members will receive mini iPads.

Vintage Days festivities will conclude with an awards ceremony at 4:30 p.m. Sunday on the concert stage.

Vintage Days, begun in 1975, is organized by a student-run committee within the Student Involvement Center in the Division of Student Affairs led by student director Kathryn Updyke, a junior electrical engineering and math double major, and adviser Josh Edrington.
