Dr. Vida Samiian, who served as dean of the College of Arts and Humanities at Fresno State for 10 years before stepping down this month to return to the faculty, will be honored by the Fresno Arts Council at its annual Horizon Awards Aug. 14 at the Fresno Art Museum. She is being recognized with the Special Award for such accomplishments as the development of University High School, the CSU Summer ARTS program held in Fresno for 13 years and the advancement of the Fresno State Music Department. Samiian has also been a supporter of the Fresno Philharmonic Orchestra, the Fresno Art Museum and students of the arts. She is responsible for the establishment of many arts scholarships.
