Fresno State’s Es-Tu-Dios Catholic student organization presents its 20th annual Las Mañanitas to La Virgen de Guadalupe Procession and Mass at 6 a.m. Monday, Dec. 12, in the Free Speech Area north of the Henry Madden Library. The procession travels to St. Paul Catholic Newman Center (1572 E. Barstow Ave.), where mass will be celebrated. “Las Mañanitas” will be sung to the Virgen de Guadalupe to commemorate the apparition of the Virgin Mary to the Mexican Indian Juan Diego in 1531. Pope John Paul II canonized Juan Diego in 2002, making him the first indigenous American saint, and declared Our Lady of Guadalupe the patroness of the Americas. A reception follows at the church’s cafeteria at 8 a.m. with free breakfast of pan dulce and hot chocolate. INFO: estudios.fresnostate@gmail.com or visit the Es-Tu-Dios Facebook page or at Es-tu-dios.
