Armenian ambassador to visit Fresno State Genocide Monument Jan. 28

Ambassador of Republic of Armenia to the United States Grigor Hovhannissian will include a stop at Fresno State during his visit to the Valley on Saturday, Jan. 28.

Hovhannissian will pay tribute to the martyrs of the 1915 Armenian Genocide at the University’s Armenian Genocide Monument at approximately 11 a.m.

He will be accompanied by Berj K Apkarian of Fresno, honorary consul for the Republic of Armenia.

Following the Fresno State stop, Hovhannissian will visit the Honorary Armenian Consulate and meet with community leaders.

Hovhannissian, a former Consul General for Armenia in Los Angeles, visited Fresno in that capacity, but this month’s visit will be his first as ambassador.

His visit also coincides with the 25th anniversary of establishment of Armenian army, known as Army Day in Armenia, said Apkarian.
