(October 3, 2017) — Adrian Harris, Fresno entrepreneur,  will be the keynote speaker at the African American Student Success Conference, “Reclaiming My Time”, from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 4, in the Satellite Student Union at Fresno State. Registration is now full.

Harris is a musician, promoter, photographer and business who launched his website FresnoVibe in 2013 to advertise and showcase nightlife, music artists, businesses and highlight local news.  V.I.B.E stands for Very Intelligent Black/Business Entrepreneurs. The company’s goal is to help build and start new businesses in Fresno and to open up more jobs in the Central Valley. He speaks at 10:55 a.m.

Nearly 500 guests are expected for  the free conference hosted every year by Fresno State’s Outreach and Special Programs. The event  is geared towards promoting post-secondary readiness and preparation to local African American students and parents, said Wendy Nelson, African American Initiative Coordinator  for the program.

The conference will include a resource information fair, college student/faculty/staff panel, and various presentations on how to prepare for college. See agenda below and: bit.ly/AASSC17agenda.

One of this year’s highlights is the unveiling of the new California State University (CSU) application called Cal State Apply to CSU eligible seniors, transfer students, and veterans of the U.S. military.

The improved process allows students to apply to multiple CSU campuses with just one application, and it will incorporate the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) application, eliminating the need to file a separate EOP application.

Seniors who attend the conference will have an opportunity to learn more about Cal State Apply, and learn more about financial aid and scholarships, and higher education opportunities.
