CineCulture will present “Angelica” at 5:30 p.m., Friday, March 2, at the Peters Education Center Auditorium at the Student Recreation Center (5010 N. Woodrow Ave.). The post-screening discussion will be led by director Marisol Gómez-Mouakad. Angélica dreams of a major career as a fashion designer in New York, but has not gone further than a sewing job when she must return to Puerto Rico when her father, Wilfredo, suffers a heart attack. Her unexpected return after a long absence, along with her father’s illness, lead Angélica to re-evaluate her strained relationship with her mother, who resents her for being of mixed race. Angélica must also deal with being separated from her partner in New York who travels to Puerto Rico in an attempt to bring her back. These difficult circumstances force Angélica to face whether she knows who she is, and if she can accept it. “Angelica” is an hour and a half long, in Spanish with English subtitles. The presentation is sponsored by the Department of Modern and Classical Languages and Literatures, the Spanish Program and the Department of Chicano and Latin American Studies. All CineCulture films screened on campus are free and open to the public. Parking is free after 4 p.m. on Fridays. INFO: Dr. Mary Husain at mhusain@csufresno.edu.
