University Theatre brings lives of dreamers to light in ‘Just Like Us’

The Central Valley premiere of ‘Just Like Us’ will begin at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26, Saturday, Oct. 27, throughout the week of Oct. 30 through Nov. 3, and at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 28 at the Dennis & Cheryl Woods Theatre in the Speech Arts building.

Based on Helen Thorpe’s bestselling book, this documentary-style play by Karen Zacarías follows four Latina teenage girls in Denver — two of whom are documented and two who are not — through young adulthood. Their close-knit friendships begin to unravel when immigration status dictates the girls’ opportunities or lack thereof, making each girl’s future increasingly complicated.

Tickets are $17 for adults, $15 for Fresno State faculty, staff, alumni and military, and $10 for all students. Children under 5 not admitted.
