Four Fresno State plant science students received Irrigation Association E3 program awards at the 2018 Irrigation Show and Education Conference held Dec. 3 through Dec. 7 in Long Beach. Seniors Mark Castanon (Fresno), Aldo Garcia (Shafter), Ignacio Mendoza (Salinas) and sophomore Lilian Reyes Solorio (Livingston) were selected based on their academic accomplishments and were invited to participate in classes, industry sessions and networking events.

Fresno State’s four selections were tied for most in the country with Oklahoma State among the 19 universities that received honors. Fresno State senior Vivian Maier (Belmont) was also one of 20 university students selected as Irrigation Foundation Scholarship winners that will each receive grants up to $2,500. Travel costs to the conference for the nine Fresno State students that attended was covered by Irrigation Association awards, Associated Students, Inc., instructional related activity funds and campus research grants.

At the conference, plant science faculty member Dr. Dave Goorahoo began his two-year term as an Irrigation Association technical program committee member, and Center for Irrigation Technology program manager Laura Ramos started a two-year term as chairperson of the public affairs committee.
