Fresno State’s national and state flags will be posted at half-staff on Saturday, June 29, the date of services for Paul Schechter, a Fresno Athletic Hall of Fame trainer. Mr. Schechter died June 21 at age 75. Schechter served as the head athletics trainer for 27 years at Fresno State (1974-2001), which included overseeing the football team in both the Jim Sweeney and Pat Hill eras. Mr. Schechter’s impact was made on hundreds of Bulldogs, including current head coach Jeff Tedford who was a player and coach during his time on staff.

His impact on Fresno State Athletics did not stop in the training room. Schechter’s contributions also included educating students and spearheading fundraising efforts for new facilities for the betterment of the department as a whole. He was enshrined in the Fresno Athletic Hall of Fame in 2016. A celebration of Mr. Schechter’s life will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 29, at Belmont Country Club.
