Nationally syndicated comic writer Brian Crane, author of the “Pickles” comic strip, will be hosting an art lecture at 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 3, at the John Wright Theatre. “Pickles” was nationally syndicated in 1990 and appears in about 1,000 newspapers around the world. In 2001, Crane won the National Cartoonists Society Newspaper Comic Strip Award. In addition, he won a Reuben Award in 2012.
Crane’s work is funny and uplifting, focused on strong characters who are “decent folk.” He draws inspiration for his comics from his retired in-laws, who “bicker back and forth but are totally devoted to each other.” Tickets can be purchased at www.csusummerarts.org or at the John Wright Theatre box office.
