The Press at California State University, Fresno published Western Armenian in the 21st Century: Challenges and New Approaches in 2018 as part of the Armenian Studies Program Fall 2019 Lecture Series at Fresno State. Four of the contributors to the volume will present their conclusions at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept 6, at the University Business Center, Alice Peters Auditorium (Peters Building, Room 191). The panel will explore how to best teach Western Armenian, which UNESCO has placed on the list of the world’s endangered languages. Discussants include Dr. Shushan Karapetian, deputy director of the Institute of Armenian Studies at the University of Southern California; Jesse Siragan Arlen, Ph.D. candidate of Armenian Studies at UCLA; Elizabeth Mkhitarian, author and poet; and Dr. Hagop Kouloujian, modern Western Armenian lecturer at UCLA. The presentation is supported by the Leon S. Peters Foundation. Parking is free after 4 p.m. on Friday in lots P6 or P5.
