African People’s History Month is under way at California State University, Fresno with the first of several events, a fashion show, set for Feb. 10.

Two highlights are the Rosa Parks and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Formal Banquet on Feb. 17 and the African American Student Recruitment Conference on Feb. 23.

All events are open to the public and some are at off-campus locations.

Events are co-sponsored by the following supporters: African Peoples History Month Committee, Africana & American Indian Studies, Black Faculty and Staff Association, Central Valley Cultural Heritage Institute, College of Social Sciences, Division of Student Affairs and the National Pan-Hellenic Council.

Scheduled events are:

· Feb. 10: Fashion Show, Satellite Student Union, 5-6 p.m.

· Feb. 13: Black Student Mixer, University West Center, 5:30 p.m.

· Feb. 15: USU Bowling Night, University Student Union, 6-9 p.m.

· Feb. 17: Rosa Parks and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Formal Banquet, Ramada Inn, $25

· Feb. 18: Step Show, Veterans Memorial Auditorium, I p.m., $20

· Feb. 19: United Gospel Night Concert, Northwest Church, 6-8 p.m.

· Feb. 27: African American Student Recruitment Conference, Satellite Student Union, 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Also, 90.7 KFSR at Fresno State will honor Black History Month with the broadcast of four, hour-long radio features that focus on the historical and artistic contributions of peoples of African heritage.

The programs, which begin on Sunday, Feb. 5, at 9 a.m. with an American RadioWorks produced documentary titled Mandela: An Audio History, will air at 9 a.m. every Sunday in February.
