Stephen F. Sotomayor

Stephen F. Sotomayor, chief of staff to Fresno City Council Member Andreas Borgeas, has been appointed to the University Advisory Board by California State University, Fresno President John D. Welty.

Board members are appointed from the community to provide the president with advice about the improvement and development of the university.

Sotomayor is the lead policy adviser and manages the operations and staff of Borgeas’ office, including constituent relations for Borgeas’ northwest Fresno district.

His career spans 10 years of leadership and project management experience in the central San Joaquin Valley, following Army service in Germany, Iraq and stateside.

As a captain, Sotomayor received the Bronze Star Medal for organizing and running the largest maintenance operation in Baghdad. He also led 146 combat missions.

Sotomayor holds a Bachelor of Arts in history from the University of Arizona. He was the board chair for Fresno’s Leading Young Professionals and was named one of Fresno’s top 40 professionals under 40.

Sotomayor joins other University Advisory Board members Dr. John Boogaert (chair), Jim Anton (vice-chair), Julia Brown, Sandy Brown, Dr. Katherine Flores, J. Michael McGowan, Hugo Morales, Michael Patton, James Shekoyan, Roxanne Stephenson and Julie Tone.
