Fresno State Culinology®, dietetics and food science students will unveil their makeover of Jimy Wen’s Asian Restaurant at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28, with a re-launch party at the restaurant, 7065 N. Cedar Ave. in Fresno.

Students in a food system management class taught by Dr. Klaus Tenbergen, a professor in the Department of Food Science and Nutrition at Fresno State, will present their semester project fashioned in the style of Food Network’s “Restaurant: Impossible,” where an eatery is re-made in two days.

This is the second year for the Fresno State project in which senior students work with a struggling restaurant to revamp its menu, design, public relations and marketing strategies.

“The students are given full access and collaborate with the owners to make over the restaurant and spread the word to help bring in customers,” said Tenbergen, an award-winning chef on three continents, who selects the restaurant.

The students redid Jimy Wen’s menu, adding new items such as desserts and custom drinks and developed new strategies for plating the dishes. They redesigned the interior and exterior of the restaurant, staff apparel and the company vehicle. Students also helped update Jimy Wen’s social media to be more competitive online.

The public is invited to the free re-launch party to and to see and taste the changes Fresno State students recommended.
