UPDATE: Video coverage of the talk by Dr. Bernice Sandler at Fresno State Nov. 5  filmed by Fresno State Athletics is available on the Mountain West Network at http://bit.ly/1xa2EUJ.

Dr. Bernice Sandler, a national pioneer in the development and passage of Title IX, will discuss “‘Too Strong for a Woman’: Five Words that Created Title IX” from 1-2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 5 at Fresno State.

The free, public event will be in the Henry Madden Library, Room 3212.

Sandler played a major role in the development and passage of Title IX, the federal legislation that prohibits educational institutions that are receiving federal funding of any sort (loans, contracts, grants, etc.) from discriminating against students or employees on the basis of sex.

Sandler has given over 2500 presentations and written more than 100 articles on women’s educational equity. She has written extensively on how women and men are treated differently on college campuses. And she was the first person to write reports on sexual harassment and gang rape on college campuses.

The event is co-sponsored by the Fresno State Women’s Studies Program, the office of the Title IX coordinator, the Women’s Resource Center and the Affirmative Action Committee of the California Faculty Association.
