The Master of Fine Arts Program in Creative Writing at Fresno State promises a literary spring, presenting six events in its Spring 2015 Reading Series with the Fresno Poets’ Association. The lineup features multiple national award-winning authors and it includes two Fresno State creative writing faculty.
Each of the following readings will start at 7 p.m. in the Alice Peters Auditorium (Peters Business building, Room 191) inside the University Business Center. Admission and parking are free in suggested lots P5 and P6.
Friday, Jan. 23 – Chelsea Wagenaar
Winner of the 2013 Philip Levine Prize in Poetry, Wagenaar’s poetry collection “Mercy Spurs the Bone” is available now from Anhinga Press. She is a doctoral fellow in poetry at the University of North Texas, where she also teaches.
Friday, Jan. 30 – Steven Church
Founding editor of “The Normal School” literary magazine, Church’s essay collection “Ultrasonic” is available now, and a new book-length essay is due in 2016. He teaches at Fresno State.
Friday, Feb. 13 – Jon Veinberg
A two-time recipient of National Endowment for the Arts grants in poetry, Veinberg’s poetry collection “Angels at Bus Stops” is available now from the University of Washington Press. He lives in Fresno, and he is a frequently anthologized Fresno poet.
Friday, Feb. 20 – Marilyn Chin
A five-time recipient of the Pushcart Prize and a widely anthologized author, Chin’s poetry collection “Hard Love Province” is available now via W.W. Norton. She teaches creative writing at San Diego State University. The event is co-sponsored by the Undergraduate Conference on Multiethnic Literatures of the Americas.
Friday, March 6 – Jeffrey Schultz
Director of the Creative Writing Program at Pepperdine University, Schultz’s poetry collection “What Ridiculous Things We Could Ask of Each Other” is available now. He earned his bachelor’s degree in English from Fresno State.
Friday, March 13 – Tim Skeen
Coordinator of the Fresno State Master of Fine Arts Program, Skeen’s poetry collection “Risk” won the White Pine Press Poetry Prize and is available now.
