Fresno City Council member Esmeralda Soria will be the honored guest at the Chicano Latino Youth Leadership Project San Joaquin Valley Reception from 5-7 p.m. today (June 11) at the Smittcamp Alumni House at Fresno State (2625 E. Matoian Way).

An alumna of the program, Soria will be welcomed by another program alumnus, Fresno State President Joseph I. Castro. The event is a prelude to the annual CLYLP Institute that will be based at Fresno State June 26-28.

A statewide program – sessions are also held in Sacramento and Los Angeles  – the summer institute prepares students to become tomorrow’s leaders by participating in California’s economic, social and political development. The project was founded in 1982 and more than 3,400 students have gone through its programs with the support of thousands of volunteers, speakers and supporters across California.
