CineCulture and Filmworks present “Wild Tales” at 5:30 and 8:30 p.m. Friday, June 12, at Tower Theater in Fresno (815 E. Olive Ave.). The Argentine social satire that was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film plays as an anthology film — six stand-alone stories that are woven together by the theme of vengeance. Filmmaker Damián Szifron, a veteran TV director and screenwriter, says “Wild Tales” is a commentary on Western capitalism in which volatile characters walk a thin but wickedly funny line between civilization and barbarism. Produced by noted Spanish filmmaker brothers Augustín and Pedro Almodóvar, the 122-minute film (Spanish with English subtitles, Rated R) features a lush, cinematic score by musician and composer Gustavo Santaolalla, who won Oscars for Best Original Score in 2005 for Brokeback Mountain and in 2006 for Babel. Members of the Fresno Alliance for Boys and Men of Color will attend the screening for free. The coalition of youth, community organizations, foundations and leaders in government, education, public health and law enforcement is committed to improving the life and chances of California’s boys and young men of color. Tickets are $10 general and $8 for students and seniors. INFO: FresnoFilmworks.org or Dr. Mary Husain at mhusain@csufresno.edu.
