The Leon S. Peters Ethics Lecture Series continues with a talk by Dr. Lucius Outlaw, “If Not Race, Then What? Bio-cultural Groups, Social Ontology, and Political Philosophy,” at 5 p.m. Friday, March 11 in the Engineering East building, room 191. Outlaw is a professor of philosophy at Vanderbilt University and author of “On Race and Philosophy.” His research area spans from Africana philosophy and Euro-American philosophy. He will pose a question about whether “bio-cultural groups” – social groupings that are self-reproducing biologically and partially self-sustaining through cultural practices – should be upheld as an accurate classification of race. The lecture is free and open to the public. The series is presented by the Ethics Center in the College of Arts and Humanities.
