A paint party to support the Arne Nixon Center for the Study of Children’s Literature at Fresno State will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 23, at the Fresno State Viticulture and Enology V.E. Petrucci Library (Barstow Avenue, between Cedar and Maple), overlooking the Fresno State vineyards.

Funds from the Canvas and Cordials Paint Party, presented by the Arne Nixon Center Advocates, will also support the creation of a community mural in spring 2017 by award-winning children’s illustrator Rafael López. Volunteers will be needed to help prepare and paint the mural wall.

Doors open at 1:30 p.m. Guests can purchase Fresno State wine, assorted beers and non-alcoholic beverages while enjoying live music during arrival and intermission.

Housed in Fresno State’s Henry Madden Library, the Arne Nixon Center is one of North America’s leading resources for children’s literature with more than 60,000 books, periodicals, manuscripts and works of art.

Kaitlin Harada will be the painting instructor. Harada, a Fresno State graduate and employer relations coordinator for the University of Southern California, has had an interest in art from a young age. Mostly self-taught, she wants to make art accessible for people of all skill levels.

The ticket donation price is $55, which covers all teacher fees, supplies to complete a 16-inch by 20-inch painting and a canvas apron to take home. Sign up online at http://tinyurl.com/canvasandcordials-july23 or contact the Arne Nixon Center to pay by check. Space is limited.
