The Maddy Institute at Fresno State and The Wonderful Company announced the recipients of the Wonderful Public Service Graduate Fellowship are Nanki Bhullar of Fresno who attends Santa Clara University and Randy Villegas of Bakersfield who attends California State University, Bakersfield. The awards, $56,000 each, are funded by a $112,000 donation from Lynda and Stewart Resnick, co-owners of The Wonderful Company. The program helps cultivate the next generation of Valley leaders by providing financial assistance to students working to obtain an advanced degree from a top graduate program, said Mark Keppler, executive director of The Maddy Institute. The fellows are required to return to the San Joaquin Valley during the summer for a paid summer internship ($6,000 of the $56,000 fellowship) and, after he/she graduates, work in a San Joaquin Valley-based government entity, social service entity or non-profit for at least two years. Bhullar is double majoring in women’s and gender studies and philosophy. She is a candidate for a concurrent master’s in social work and public health at the University of California, Los Angeles.
