Dr. Larissa Mercado-Lopez, Women’s Studies professor at Fresno State, will celebrate the release of her bilingual picture book “Esteban de Luna, Baby Rescuer!” with a book-signing from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. Saturday, June 10, at Petunia’s Place bookstore in Fresno (6027 N. Palm Ave.).
The book is about a young boy who becomes the caretaker of a doll he finds in a park through the practice of babywearing (carrying a baby or toddler in a wearable carrier). Mercado-Lopez, who joined the Fresno State faculty in 2013, said the book was inspired by the birth of her son, Zacarías.
“Through this story, I hope to open up conversations about the wonderful skills of caring that we can nurture in our little boys and girls to create a more kind and loving world,” she said.
Mercado-Lopez will be joined by novelist Hoang Chi Smith, author of the young adult book “Tiger Daughter and her Coming of Age in America.”
