The “Funny Asian Women Kollective” weekend at Fresno State begins with a clapback workshop and comedy show by Naomi Ko, May Lee Yang and Saymoukda Vongsay. The clapback workshop will give attendees the opportunity to learn to improvise and use performance art to combat micro aggressions from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday, March 10, in the Vintage Room. The comedy show, designed to disrupt stereotypes about Asian women through raw, uncensored comedy, will follow from 7 to 9 p.m. A Lao-Hmong friendship play will be performed from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, March 11, at the Satellite Student Union. The play is a comedy turned accidental musical about playwrights, foodies and BFFs. Yang and Vongsay will hack their way through stories about refugee life, American pop culture and empowering their brethren through the “hot Asian man project.” All events are free and open to the public, and are sponsored by the College of Social Sciences, Asian American Studies, Cross Cultural and Gender Center, Associated Students, Inc. and Amerasia Organization.
